Catlaunch Rockets to Victory
in Babst/Palacios Memorial

Catlaunch with Ivan Gonzalez leads at the turn of the Babst/Palacios
Memorial Handicap on
his way to the win at Beulah Park.
Scioto Farm’s Catlaunch grabbed the lead from the start and controlled the
pace to win the $50,000 Babst/Palacios Memorial Handicap at Beulah Park on
Saturday. Six Ohio-bred runners battled with Catlaunch taking the lead as
wagering favorite Cat Singer unseated his rider at the start. Pulling away
through the turn Catlaunch saved plenty in the tank to outrun Ohio sprint
champion Ben’s Reflection to the wire. Winning by 1 ½ lengths, Catlaunch ran
the six furlongs over the fast track in a snappy 1:10.
Bred in Ohio by Scioto Farm Supply, Inc Catlaunch recorded his 9th win from
36 career outings. The five-year-old gelded son of Noble Cat pushed his
earnings to over $140,000.
Ridden by Ivan Gonzalez for trainer Ivan Vazquez, Catlaunch paid $7.20,
$3.00 and $2.60. Ben’s Reflection made a belated run to finish second and
returned $2.40 and $2.20. Blazing Element pressed the pace before fading to
third and had a show payoff of $3.20.
In other racing news…
Just Michel ($2.80) turned the tables on Parthenope as she dashed away to a
5 ¼ length triumph in the $20,000 Alyssa Handicap. She was ridden by Edgar
Paucar for trainer Mike Nance.
Edgar Paucar collected his third consecutive riding title at Beulah. The
native Peruvian’s 98 victories put him well ahead of fellow countrymen Yuri
Yaranga (72), Marco Ccamaque (55) and Cesar Camaque (48).
Charlie Lawson captured his first Beulah Park training title with a 31
victories during the winter/spring meet. The 20 year veteran horseman began
his career at Darby Downs (Now Beulah Park) and holds several titles at
River Downs.
Lynn Wilson’s Lil E’s Express parlayed five wins into a horse of the meet
title. The 5-year-old gelded son of Slew the Surgeon finished in a three way
tie with Usher In and Louis’ Star but won the award based on earning.
This concludes the 2006 Winter/Spring meet for Beulah Park. Live racing will
return to the Grove City oval on October 6, 2006. Fortune 6 Shifts to Ohio
7/7: Saturday’s Fortune 6 paid $411.50 for 6 of 6 winners. The Fortune 6
will shift to River Downs in Cincinnati and Thistledown in Cleveland. The
wager will be available from each track or the Ohio 7/7 program.
Just Michel won the Alyssa Handicap Saturday at Beulah Park.
Chad's Hero Saves the Day for Bettors in Feature

Chad's Hero trained by Mike Rone with Yuri Yaranga up following the win
in the feature race Wednesday at Beulah Park.
Jack Conley and Jeanne Dooley’s Chad’s Hero made his return to Beulah Park a
victorious one with a start to finish in winning the Wednesday feature. Six
competitive Ohio bred allowance runners battled as Chad’s Hero took the lead
with Hopes Little Joe pressing from second moving into the first turn.
Midway down the backstretch Slewbiscuit moved up to challenge but was
shrugged off by Chad’s Hero at the top of the lane. Starting to pull away,
Chad’s Hero had to deflect another contender as Canvas’ Micky made a belated
run for second. Winning by ¾ of a length, Chad’s Hero covered the one mile
over the fast track in 1:42 2/5.
Ridden by Yuri Yaranga for trainer Mike Rone, Chad’s Hero paid $3.80, $2.40
and $2.10 as the wagering favorite. Canvas’ Micky closed strongly for second
and returned $6.60 and $3.00. Slewbiscuit faded to third and paid his
backers $2.20.
Live racing returns to Beulah Park on Saturday with 11 live races, first
post time is 1:15 p.m. Gates will open at 9:30 a.m. with the first race from
Churchill Downs at 11:00 a.m. Beulah Park is the only location in Central
Ohio to wager on the Kentucky Derby.
Plenty of activities including John Schwab performances between races and
the River Boat Five Dixieland style jazz band at roving locations throughout
the park. Also, ticket announcements for central Ohio's biggest country
music fair, LegendsFest on July 29.
Fortune 6 Shifts to Ohio 7/7:
Wednesday’s Fortune 6 paid $192.50 for 6 of 6 winners. Saturday's Jackpot is
worth $10,000, sponsored by
WinTicket.com. Following
the live race meeting on May 6 the Fortune 6 will shift to River Downs in
Cincinnati and Thistledown in Cleveland. There will be no mandatory payout
on the last day of racing at Beulah Park. The wager will be available from
each track or the Ohio 7/7 program.
