'Bufords Cat' Claws Way to Victory

Alan Dossett’s Bufords Cat stalked the early pace before dashing to lead in the final strides to win the featured race on Saturday. Six Ohio-bred allowance runners dueled as Ryno’s Wish and Jordan’s Party battled for the early lead. At the top of the lane Ryno’s Wish drifted wide off the turn and Bufords Cat took advantage. Darting through and drawing away to a 2 ¼ length win, Bufords Cat covered the six furlongs over the fast track in 1:14 3/5.
Ridden by Edgar Paucar for trainer Kevin Fletcher, Bufords Cat paid $6.00, $4.00 and $2.20 as the wagering favorite. Effective Icarus closed well for second and returned $5.20 and $2.80. Captain Curt finished third and returned his backers $2.80.

Feature Race 'Promises' Kept at Beulah

Paul Tackett's Sea of Promises did not disappoint as she romped to
victory in the Friday feature. Four well-balanced allowance/optional
claiming fillies and mares clashed as Sea of Promises dashed to the lead and
powered away to an 8 ½ length win. The running time for the six furlongs
over the fast track was 1:11 4/5.
Ridden by Marco Ccamaque for trainer William Taylor, Sea of Promises
paid $7.00 and $3.40. Due to the number of runners there was no show
wagering. Golden Izzy closed well for second and returned $3.60.

'Crafty Jay' Cunning in Feature Race

Alex Moretti’s Crafty Jay settled in the middle of a compact bunch before springing into action and taking command in the Wednesday feature at Beulah Park. Six allowance/optional claiming horse squared off as Take Your Pick and Winings Win Winner dueled for the lead. Moving into the final turn Crafty Jay surged to the front and drew off impressively. Winning by 5 lengths Crafty Jay covered the one mile over the fast track in 1:40 3/5.
Ridden by Jose Sanchez, Jr. for trainer Ivan Vazquez, Crafty Jay returned $5.80, $3.80 and $2.60 Winings Win Winner dug in gamely for second and paid $5.40 and $2.60. Take Your Pick faded to third and returned his backers $2.10.

By The Sword Edges Foes In Leg Two of the Bluegrass Warrior Distance Series

Owner-trainer Ricky Faulkner’s By the Sword diced his way through traffic to be victorious in the Tuesday feature at Beulah Park. Twelve classy claimers clashed as Convexity took charge early stalked intently by Mike’s Folly and Spirit of Woody. Midway down the backstretch By the Sword began to weave through the competition and grabbed the lead with less than 100 yards to run. Winning by 1 ¼ lengths, By the Sword covered the 1 ¼ miles over the fast track in 2:05 2/5.
The Bluegrass Warrior Distance Series is a set of five races for claiming horses run during the Beulah Park Winter/Spring meet. Leg three will be contested on February 28 at the distance of 1 ½ miles.
Ridden by Paul Melancon, By the Sword paid $41.60, $18.80 and $7.80. Convexity battled gamely for second and returned $5.20 and $2.80. Artic Sand stalked the pace to finish third and paid his backers $2.60

'Locker' Holds All the Answers in Monday Feature

Tom Thornton’s Locker stalked the early leader before taking charge at the top of the lane to win the featured race at Beulah Park. Eight allowance runners dueled as Whitey’s Alphastar darted towards the lead with Padre and Locker tracking comfortably in second and third. Turning into the home stretch Locker pounced on the pacesetter and dashed away to victory. Winning by 4 ½ lengths, Locker covered the one mile over the fast track in 1:42 1/5.
Ridden by Marco Ccamaque for trainer Nancy Thornton, Locker paid $3.40, $2.40 and $2.60. Medici closed well for second and returned $3.60 and $4.00. Brandon’s Secret, the other half of the Nancy Thornton trained entry ran third and paid the same as his entry mate Locker.
