Gross Takes Top Honors As Leading Trainer
May 7, 2005

Grove City, Ohio  – Veteran trainer Reid Gross adds another training title to his record by winning the 2005 Winter/Spring meet in a runaway. Gross, who nearly won the Fall 2004 title, started the season strong and continued his hot streak throughout the meet. Winning 59 races, Gross finished 40 wins ahead of his nearest competitors Jake Radosevich and Albert Palacios.

Born in Clay County Kentucky, Gross moved to Cincinnati at the age of 14 to work under the tutelage of Pete Maxwell. After a stint in Oklahoma, Gross shifted to Michigan and worked as an outrider at Hazel Park and Detroit Race Course for 20 years. In the fall of 1984 Gross obtained his trainers licenses and began training at Beulah. Over the years Gross has had many good horses including Michigan Mile winner Bad Wagon Harry and Fast Way Home who won 13 races for the Gross.

Dove Mountain posted six victories from eight starts this winter to be named champion horse for the 2005 Winter/Spring meet. Dove Mountain is seven for eleven lifetime over the Beulah oval.

Owner-trainer Timothy Montgomery’s Merryhadalilwolf was awarded top honors for his efforts in the Bluegrass Warrior Distance Series. The ten-year-old son of Wolf Power recorded a win, a second and a third from three starts in the series.

Live racing returns to Beulah Park on Saturday September 24, 2005.
