April 1, 2006

GROVE CITY, OH – There’s no beans about it, the new Central Ohio Chili Festival is going to be HOT! Beulah Park and the Sundance Saloon have teamed up to host a weekend Texas-style (no beans) chili cook-off to benefit the Epilepsy Foundation of Central Ohio and Firefighters for Kids.

Cooks compete in three categories for over $3,000 in cash prizes: Red Chili, Green Chili and Salsa. Beulah Park hosts the Regional Qualifying cook-off Saturday, April 1st. Winners go to the national competition in October to compete for $30,000. Last year, Columbus’ own Tom Hoover won the International Chili Society’s World Championship for his ‘Happy Trails’ salsa!

This year marks the introduction of the People’s Choice Award at Beulah Park- You get to taste the chili and cast your vote! Proceeds for People’s Choice samples also go to the Epilepsy Foundation of Central Ohio. Beulah Park expects more than 40 chili and salsa entries to be judged this year. In addition to live Thoroughbred horse racing, there will be line dancing lessons and country music. Parking is $1 and admission is $2 for adults which will fund additional donations to the Epilepsy Foundation. Gates open at 11 a.m., judging starts at 12:30 p.m.
